What is SEO? It stands for Search Engine Optimization, which means in the field of writing that anything you write for SEO purposes is specifically created for search engines to pick up on. The content you write is optimized for a search engine to identify and bring to light in case anyone wants to search for anything related to the topic you are discussing.
Now that you know what SEO is (and before even reading my post, you pretty much had a good idea on what SEO was), the question becomes "Why is SEO writing so important?" That may be a little more difficult to explain, but when you are writing about something you want to pinpoint keywords and highlight them so that your readers won't forget about them.
While it isn't a required method for every single piece of content you write on the internet, writing for SEO purposes is a clear cut way of explaining your most important points in your articles. When you have a client who asks you to include specific keywords in an article, you are being asked to give those keywords importance. You are being asked to keep reminding readers of why these words matter. If certain words don't matter in a SEO-friendly piece, then they won't be highlighted nearly as much. That should be easy enough to understand.
One major reason why writers submit content for SEO purposes is that the key subjects that are being discussed in the very title of the article are being put out there for readers to think about. It would make no sense if your article was titled "How To Make the Best Balloon Animals For Your Children", and then you would barely, if at all, talk about balloon animals. If you are not going to write about the most highlighted thing in the article's title, then you have wasted a potentially good article title altogether.
Everything has to have a consistent flow, and writing content is no exception. That is another reason why writing for SEO purposes is important. The flow of your writing is kept in order. You are not only reminding readers of what is important to remember, but you are reminding yourself of what to keep highlighting. Of course, all writers get caught up in what they are going to describe in their content, and sometimes the right words just don't come out. When you have specific keywords mentioned more than once in an article, you are given the idea that there is added weight to these words. You wouldn't mention these words over and over again for no reason.
When it comes to my writing, SEO purposes are almost always a consideration, and some of the jobs I have worked on have required SEO keywords to be included. I had to learn the importance of writing for SEO purposes as I went along in my journey as a freelance writer. If you get into freelance writing yourself, I can guarantee you that you will have to adjust to SEO writing. Many of the best paying jobs require you to know enough about SEO writing, or else you won't be getting those jobs.
